YIFENG YVONNE YUAN
YIFENG YVONNE YUAN is a Chinese composer/performer based in Los Angeles.
Yvonne has played the piano since the age of six, and that soon turned her into a keyboardist/singer in a rock band, where she began her passion for writing music. In college, Yvonne was heavily involved in film scoring and theater music. Her works have been performed at the UCLA Freud Playhouse and the Hollywood Fringe Festival; She was awarded “the best female film composer” by Toronto Women Film Festival.
Yvonne graduated from UCLA with a major in Music Composition. Her teachers include Richard Danielpour, Ian Krouse, David Lefkowitz, and Kay Rhie. Yvonne considers music as the language before languages were invented. Fascinating natural phenomena are often featured in her music, as she explores the sonic possibilities of the wonders found in her daily life, including her imperfect skin, the origin of the universe, and forests. She constantly takes inspiration from non-musical sounds, including the sound of rustling leaves, the beeping of morse code, and the beating of the heart. She composes for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. She is also an avid electronic/computer music geek.
Yvonne’s music has been performed at the Atlantic Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, and EAMA Institute. Her work was selected as the finalist of the Morton Gould Young Composer Competition. She is on artist residency with Nomadic Soundsters from 2021 to 2022. Her new work will be premiered by Delgani String Quartet in February 2022.
