AN ANNOUNCEMENT
Greetings,
As 2024 continues onward, we wanted to take this time to provide an update on the future and direction of the Millennium Composers Initiative.
Earlier this year, the organization accepted the resignations of board members Kevin Day and Frank Duarte. Kevin has been with MCI since its founding in 2018, and Frank has become a more recent member of the initiative. Both Kevin and Frank’s contributions to furthering our mission, behind the scenes and publicly, cannot be understated - we are so grateful to them for their work and support for MCI and its membership, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
These past few years have become increasingly difficult for us to provide immediate concrete action for our goals as an initiative and how we intend to create new opportunities for our membership. Although we are still rebounding from the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, MCI is farther along than ever before in the process of setting the foundational groundwork which will allow for us to move in new and exciting directions for our membership as well as the greater music community.
With this in mind, and after extensive, yet careful, thought & consideration, the board has accepted my decision to step down as Executive Director, effective immediately. Board member Isaac Mayhew has been appointed to oversee MCI in an interim directing position until such a time a new Executive Director has been chosen. While Frank will be retaining his membership with MCI, Kevin and I have made the decision to step down entirely from the initiative altogether, thereby becoming MCI’s first Alumni Members - both of us will no longer have an active role, or participation, in any of MCI’s activities and/or opportunities moving forward.
When I co-founded MCI in 2018, the goal for it was always abundantly clear; that it would serve to connect, uplift, support, and provide for composers at the beginning of their professional careers. While that goal has evolved over the years the further MCI has grown, these core ideals have not changed. Some of the most rewarding opportunities of my life - professionally and personally - happened because of this vision.
I met my closest of friends because of MCI - I will always remember and be grateful for that.
It has been the privilege, honor, and thrill of a lifetime to co-create this organization and bring together so many different composers from across the globe. I will always be grateful to MCI, and I’m looking forward to seeing this initiative soar to greater heights in its next chapter.
-Josh Trentadue, Alumni Member
