MYA VANDEGRIFT
MYA VANDEGRIFT (b.2002) is a composer, sound artist, and songwriter based out of Evanston, Illinois. With a passion for narrative and experimental music, Vandegrift works to create music that is energetic, unique, and emotionally driven. She draws upon the classical tradition as the basis for her music, but seeks to push the boundaries of notation, aesthetic, and interdisciplinary work. In August of 2021, she was a part of the first in-person Lake George Music Festival’s Composer Institute, premiering her string quartet, Suddenly In Sunlight with The Rhythm Method. Current projects include Sound Body for mixed brass ensemble and an untitled work for chamber orchestra. In addition, Vandegrift’s first opera, Whatever May Pass, will be premiered in 2023 by Northwestern University’s Opera Project for Undergraduate Students (OPUS).In the past, Vandegrift has studied under composers Kari Watson, Jack Gallagher, Paul Coleman, and Alyssa Weinberg.
