CHING-SHAN CHANG
CHING-SHAN CHANG is a composer for concert music and multimedia originally from Taiwan but currently residing in Los Angeles.
From 2018-2019, Ching-Shan was selected as one of the finalists in the 2nd International Berlin Film Scoring Competition for her score to the short film Wrapped. She was the youngest and first Asian female winner in history in the 8th International Zurich Film Music Competition, accepting the Golden Eye from film composer Don Davis (the president of the jury) for her score to Danny and the Wild Bunch. Moreover, another film she scored (in a collaboration with director Guilherme Pedra) was screened in the Short Film Corner in the 71st International Cannes Film Festival, as well as 50 Festival Internacional de Cinema Brasil, Bobs Film Festival and American Student Film Festival. In 2016, a film she scored titled The Glassmaker (directed by Maria Elias) was officially selected by Nashville Film Festival, received recognition for Best Production Design and Honorable Mention from Femujer in Dominican Republic. The film was also awarded Best Action/Thriller/Sci-Fi Student Short Film at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards in 2017. The soundtrack also won Best Original Score from Star Hollywood Festival, Hollywood Festival Online, Los Angeles Film Awards, and Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, as well as the Silver Medal for Original Score and Soundtrack for Film & Television at Global Music Awards.
In 2017, Ching-Shan premiered her orchestral work In History, in memory with the Prague Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded First Prize, Best Variation Music, and Best Tonal Music at The 7th International Antonín Dvorák Composition Competition in 2016. Upcoming commissions include a new musical for the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra - her previous collaboration with this group led to the creation of new arrangements of Taiwanese folk songs.
Ching-Shan has participated in Junkie XL/Tom Holkenborg’s SCORE Academy, the NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Woman in Music Scholarship from Sorel Organization, The Mentor Program from The Society of Composers and Lyricists, and the ASCAP/Columbia Film Scoring Workshop. She has worked directly for composers including Tom Holkenborg, Carter Burwell, Jon Everist, and Karim Elmahmoudi. She holds a Master’s Degree in Screen Scoring from New York University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Composition from Eastman School of Music.
