MILLENNIUM COMPOSERS INITIATIVE
BOLD. DIVERSE. NEW.
Representing over 100 composers around the world, we seek to provide new experiences for audiences, performers, and artists everywhere. Creating fresh and engaging new music for all types of ensembles and media, we strive to push the limits of what defines music and art through experimental, conventional, and interdisciplinary means.
OUR HISTORY
The Millennium Composers Initiative was founded by Josh Trentadue and Duncan Petersen-Jones in 2018. In its early years, MCI supported and represented young composers at the beginning of their professional careers, regardless of their aesthetic, style, or background. Beginning in 2021, the initiative has expanded its support and representation to composers of all ages.
MCI has collaborated with artists and ensembles around the world to foster new creative opportunities for our members and stimulate the growth of new music in vitally important communities. Additionally, our members are collectively represented at annual events including The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference, the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, and the Texas Music Educators Association conference.
Our composers have received awards recognition and commissioning opportunities from organizations including, but not limited to, ASCAP, Novus New Music, NextNotes, the Detroit Jazz Festival, Fifteen Minutes of Fame, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Dallas Winds Brass Fanfare Competition, the Berlin International Film Scoring Competition, the Iranian-Canadian Composers of Toronto (ICOT), the 8th International Zurich Film Music Competition, the Lesbian and Gay Big Apple Corps (LGBAC) Composition Competition, Columbia Summer Winds, the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music, the American Prize, and the American Composers Forum.
Our composers’ music has made appearances at venues including, but not limited to, Cannes Film Festival, Tanglewood, The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference, SHETogether, New Music Detroit's Strange Beautiful Music, the British Film Institute Future Film Festival, the Cortona Sessions for New Music, Sibelius Academy, the College Band Directors National Association conference, the MISE-EN New Music Festival, the Texas Music Educators Association conference, the National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the Georgia Music Educators Association conference, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference.
